Specialized Sections

Background to establishing the specialized sections

The specialized sections were established as a framework for fostering professional human resources who will contribute to Japan-Russia economic cooperation and people-to-people exchange. In addition to the seven sections in line with the Collaborative Plan for Industrial and Economic Innovation for an Environmentally Friendly Russia with a Higher Quality of Life, an eight-point cooperation plan agreed upon at the May 2016 Japan-Russia summit meeting, i.e., (1) health and medicine, (2) city development, (3) exchanges between small and medium-sized companies, (4) energy development (rearranged into “SDGs: environment, resource development and multicultural education” in August 2020 with the aim of developing professional human resources who will contribute not only to energy development but also to solving problems that should be addressed globally), (5) promotion of industrial diversification, (6) industrial promotion in the Far East, and (7) cooperation in developing advanced technologies, it was assumed that a section for “expansion of people-to-people exchange” would be set up at the First General Meeting of the Association of Japanese and Russian Universities held in May 2018. However, it was determined that “expansion of people-to-people exchange” would be handled by the Committee for Personnel Exchanges. Furthermore, in August of the same year, after the First General Meeting of the Association of Japanese and Russian Universities, (8) Language, culture and tourism was established with a focus on developing human resource in humanities fields in order to foster the basics for mutual growth of future specialists in charge of Japan-Russia collaboration, comprising a total of eight sections.

Initiatives of the Specialized Sections

A wide range of activities including lectures, seminars, short-term programs, and internships were carried out by the participating universities, etc., by section and across sections.

In addition, during the funding period from establishment of the specialized sections in May 2018, as many as 29 events were hosted or co-hosted by the HaRP Project, and the total number of participants exceeded 2,700. We will continue to collect and disseminate useful information such as the activities of each institution through our website and other means.
