On September 23 (Mon.), the Second General Assembly Meeting of the Association of Institutions of Higher Education of the Russian Federation and Japan (the 8th Japanese-Russian Forum of Rectors) was held at Moscow State University. Approximately 150 representatives from 41 universities (20 Japanese universities and 21 Russian universities), including rectors/presidents, vice-rectors/vice-presidents and faculty members, attended the meeting. Fifty-seven students who participated in the Japan-Russia Student Forum, which was held during the same period, also attended.
At the general meeting, focusing on the three areas of human resource exchange, medical health and community development, the rectors/presidents actively exchanged views on the current situation and issues of academic exchanges between Russia and Japan. In the discussions, they mentioned the Scientific Forum and the Core member meeting of the Committee for Personnel Exchanges to be held the following day, September 24 (Tue.) , strengthened cooperation in the humanities, social sciences and medical fields, and other future prospects. The meeting ended with a joint declaration adopted by Acting President Kasahara of Hokkaido University and Rector Sadovnichiy of Moscow State University, who were co-chairs. The next general meeting will be held at Niigata University in the spring of 2021.
